Artists Scene in Toronto: Frederica Tomas, Linoleum-cut Printmaker

Fredrica Tomas has an impish, almost sacro-sacked sense of humor – but unlike Alex “Runt” Currie painted stylings, Frederica’s linoleum cuts are more subtle and plucky with their humor. Take the first three images above , each is like 17th century pen and ink graphic with a twisting pun in contrast to the Runt’s bawdy humor. Think of caricatures by British artists like Hogarth and company. But again Frederica is simple and direct with a Cheshire cat smile of wit ready for the taking.
